Cold Case Mysteries

You are about to enter Eve Twist’s world in Tucson. The natural world of a spikey desert and stunning sunsets exists alongside another world, one of urban streets and city limits. Follow Detective Eve Twist sideways into the neighborhoods of the Old Pueblo. Scratch the urban surface and you are knee-deep in stories of crimes, murder, loss, and destruction. Like petroglyphs, Tucson’s urban past has been etched by its history and is all around us. And, as Detective Eve Twist finds out, that darker world of loss, violence, and murder is impossible to escape if you start looking.

  • Barrio Sonata book cover

    Book 1: Barrio Sonata

In Barrio Sonata, Eve is called to the old barrio by her friend, Pima County Sheriff Sam Cooper. Construction workers on South Meyer Avenue unearthed a human skull and set off a chain of events. Eve, with Sam’s help, must find out who the skeleton belongs to, and who put it there in its grave. Was it a body buried to hide a murder, or something else? She finds out that her search involves revisiting 1960s Tucson, and the city’s destruction of the old barrio, civil rights uprisings, and anti-war protests. What do they have to do with the grave on Meyer? If anything? Which of the many suspects that move in and out of Eve’s pursuit, knows the truth?

    Book 2: Broadway Modern

The discovery of a murdered victim’s notebook at one of the old adobes along the Broadway Boulevard construction project gives Eve Twist a reason to reopen an investigation that had gone cold in the past five years. Does the notebook contain clues to the crime that might lead Detective Eve Twist to discover the killer? Who were the people in Emily Jacobs’ life? And do any of them know what happened to her that night behind the old adobes?
  • Dunbar Blues book cover

    Book 3: Dunbar Blues

Eve Twist finds herself invited to a potluck in Tucson’s Dunbar Spring neighborhood. It’s an area west of the university up against the railroad tracks. And, as Eve learns, it is also home to Tucson’s early black American population. Before Detective Twist can find out more about the historically segregated district, tree-planting neighbors uncover a burial site. Eve is called to the site as archeologists and the county medical examiner hover over the two exposed skeletons.
